The international Airport in Alajuela was named after Juan Santamaria who is a national hero in Costa Rica from Alajuela. Most residents live in the city nicknamed “The city of Mangoes” and every Saturday morning residents gather for the largest outdoor farmers’ market in the country for fresh produce, local music, handicrafts or some simple conversation in the central park.
